Sphere Miller Machine


This machine was designed to automatically mill out a spherical cavity in a pillow-block bearing casting to allow self-alignment. The loading and unloading was done using a multi-axis 'pick & place' robot.


The system controlled the boring, milling, drilling and the 'pick & place' functions.


The work on this project included the design and manufacture of the machine control panel, the PLC software development and the on-site installation and commisioning.


The system is based around an Allen Bradley SLC PLC
